Baptism Sunday

John 4:1-42

In this week’s message I shared about the regular struggle I face with going to the supermarket… I easily forget what I went for, and I regularly return with something random that I didn’t need to get!

In John 4:1-42 we read about an encounter that Jesus had with a woman at a well, which was very much the supermarket of the day. The woman had come for water, but we read that she left with so much more – her life drastically changed – and she left behind her water jar. She had gone for water, and returned with living water.

As we celebrate baptisms today, what we learn from Liam and Victoria’s stories is that they have found Jesus to be so much more than they could ever have imagined. Just like the woman at the well, they set out in life with their expectations, but then after encountering Jesus – things drastically changed!

Questions:

  1. How much has your life changed because of Jesus?
  1. Can you think of any times when Jesus’ provision has far exceeded what you could imagine or expect?
  1. The woman leaves her jar behind, and tells people in her village that she has met someone who knows her ‘inside and out’ (John 4:30 The Message Version). How do you feel about the fact that Jesus knows you inside and out?
