Life’s Big Questions

Matthew 16:13-20

Life is full of so many questions, some are small, like what top should I put on today? Or what should I have for dinner tonight? Others are much bigger like Why do I exist? Is there life after death? And will Stoke City ever get back into the Premier League?!?!?!?

I love DIY and if I don’t know how to do something I’ll research it to find out how to do it. This has led to me electrocuting myself on a few occasions but, generally ended up with me resolving the lack of knowledge that I had of the task at hand.

We can spend so much time pondering these big questions without ever coming to any conclusions, so why not do something about it!

We can often shy away from the bigger question s in life as they appear to be too hard to understand or as in the case of exploring who Jesus is, could potentially mean a complete change of lifestyle.

C.S. Lewis said “You must make your choice: either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to”.

We can’t just hide away from Jesus and pretend he doesn’t exist, our action or lack of action to discover who Jesus is; is a choice that we make either way.

  1. What is your answer to Jesus’ question, “But who do you say that I am?”
  1. In the last few months, how has your relationship with Jesus shaped and impacted your life?
  1. How would you explain who Jesus is to someone who has never read the Gospels and has no knowledge of Jesus?
