In our church we really value service – especially serving others! To serve others is a privilege – we don’t HAVE to do it – we GET to do it! Serving isn’t a duty for us – it’s an opportunity for us to build others’ up, to help others, to meet the needs of someone else other than ourselves.
And it’s a privilege because it’s the way of the master, Jesus.
Jesus modelled this in His life, and calls us to do likewise (See John 13). Serving is the way of love – it’s putting our words into action! And serving is the way to joy – the happiest people are those who give their lives to serve and help others:
John Mark Comer (From Garden City):
“Have you ever noticed that people who are self-focused are usually really unhappy…but have you also noticed that people who are generally others-focused and more selfless are usually very happy? That’s not a coincidence. It’s the way of Jesus in action. When we’re down, one of the best things we can do is serve somebody else. It’s the backdoor to joy. And it’s always unlocked”
Let me encourage you this week to unlock the door to joy; look to serve somebody, help somebody, meet a need. Joy will find you.
