Thanks for watching this talk, here are some next steps to help you.

Tired

Matthew 11:28-30

Being tired is part of being human, but not all tiredness is the same.

Some tiredness is self –inflicted.

For example, we might consistently keep going to bed too late and not getting enough sleep! We inevitably fall into a rhythm of tiredness.

Or we might just be doom scrollers; we’re almost addicted to seeing what other people are up to and we get tired!

Perhaps we take on too many commitments. We struggle to say ‘no’ and are exhausted from the commitments we are juggling and trying to keep.

Some tiredness however, isn’t self-inflicted; it happens because of what life throws at us.

We might have a high pressure job, we might be struggling with the demands of family life, we might be grieving – tiredness is inevitable.

Our good God provides a remedy to soul tiredness; it is called sabbath rest. A principle where even God rested from work (Genesis 2:2).

Sabbath rest, traditionally a 24 hour period of resting, has lots of value. Taking a holiday, a break, saying no, setting up boundaries can all help alleviate tiredness. But real long-lasting soul weariness is found not in our latest holy day, a holy week, or even dare I say, our attempts at living a holy life! Real soul rest is found by abiding in the ‘sabbath made flesh’ (Jon Mark Comer, Garden City), Jesus the Christ.

Read these words of Jesus from Matthew 11:28-30

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

For those of us who are tired and are looking to Jesus; simply pause. Come to Jesus and give Him your life. Walk with Jesus and learn His rhythms. Work with Jesus to change and become all that He has planned and purposed for you.
