Next Steps
Wherever you are in your journey of faith, there’s a next step you can take. Perhaps you’re wondering who Jesus is? Or how to engage with the Bible? Maybe you’ve decided to follow Jesus and you’re wondering what’s next?
Follow Jesus
We believe that following Jesus really is the best decision we can make.
Many people talk about being a Christian; but being a Christian is more than attending a church service, doing good works or loving your neighbour. It’s about giving up your life to follow Jesus.
To become a follower of Jesus, we encourage people to talk to Jesus, read about Jesus in the Bible, and begin to live their life in a way that Jesus teaches us to.
Following Jesus often looks like this:
Praying a simple prayer
“Dear God, I thank you that you see me just as I am. I say ‘yes’ to Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Saviour today. I believe that Jesus died for me and I believe that He rose again. I give you every part of my life. Please forgive me of my sins. Be my God. Change my life and give me a brand new start. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Talk to someone
If you have prayed this prayer, you should talk to someone. We would love to connect with you and help you in your new life. Please get in touch with us here, or come and see us at one of our Sunday services. We have a team of people on our Connect Point who would love to talk to you.
Join a local Church
Whether that’s here with us at Foundry Community Church, or somewhere else local to you – make sure you join a community of Christians who follow Jesus, that’s your next step to growing in relationship with Him.
Talk to God
Praying is simply talking and listening to God. You don’t have to have a qualification in Theology or have been a Christian for years to talk to God. You just have to be real. Jesus taught us how to pray in Matthew 6. The Message version of the Bible puts it like this:
The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall from that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:
Our Father in heaven, reveal who you are.
Set the world right; do what’s best-as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
Amen!
Read the Bible
What is the Bible?
The Bible is a collection of books written over a period of 1600 years. It is the most popular, powerful and precious book in the world. It is God’s primary way of communicating with us. Through the Bible we get to know Jesus. The Bible is all about Jesus.
Who wrote the Bible?
The Bible is inspired by God, as Christians we would call it God-breathed. It was written by over forty different authors such as Moses, King David, King Solomon, Matthew, John and Paul. The authors were 100% human and 100% inspired by God.
How should I read it?
There are so many ways to read the Bible. One might be to start at the beginning and read it through to the end! Others might start in the New Testament in a book such as John.
There are lots of different reading plans and it’s important to find one that suits you. Here’s some quick and simple tips…
Top tips for using your Bible…
- Keep a notepad handy to jot down what you are learning.
- You’ll see two numbers, the big one is for chapter, the small one is for verse.
- Try memorising encouraging verses, they’ll be a great help.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help, there’s a lot to take in.
- Start by reading small chunks, it’s about quality not quantity.
- Use the contents page, it’s there to help you navigate.
- Use a pen/highlighter to make lasting notes in your Bible.
- Find a reading plan that helps you get into a daily rhythm.
The Bible in One Year
A great way to read the Bible is to set yourself the target of reading through it in one year. An organisation called Alpha provide a free Bible reading app with helpful study notes. It’s available through the app store on all smart phones and tablets or you can access it online and even set up a daily email direct to your inbox.
Life giving words
Thanks to modern technology the Bible has never been more accessible. One great resource that we would recommend is the YouVersion Bible app. This is a free way to access the Bible on your phone, tablet and computer. In using YouVersion you can set up daily reading plans, and even create daily reminders, which is helpful if you have a forgetful mind.
The Bible app for kids
The Bible is just as relevant to children as it is to adults and there are some great resources out there for children. One of our favourites is the Bible App for Kids, a free interactive resource made available by YouVersion. This animated storybook app is available for smart phones and tablets with colourful illustrations and touch-activated animations. It includes games and activities to help children remember what they learn. You can also buy a hardback book copy of this through online shops such as Amazon. Some other great children’s Bibles available are ‘The Jesus Storybook Bible’ (Sally Lloyd-Jones) and ‘The Big Bible Storybook’ (Scripture Union) which are both available to purchase on Amazon.

Baptism
What is baptism?
Baptism is a symbolic act to publicly declare that you follow Jesus. At Foundry Community Church, we practice full-immersion baptism, symbolising the process of death and resurrection that Jesus went through for us. We have baptism services throughout the year.
Who should get baptised?
Baptism is an act of faith. We believe it’s a next step for people who have made the decision to follow Jesus.
How old do you have to be to get baptised?
It isn’t possible to put a lower age on when someone should get baptised – we believe the key is that you have a story of how you have come to faith in Jesus. That’s the simple requirement.
When should you be baptised?
As soon as possible! In the early church, those who became followers of Jesus were often baptised immediately. This isn’t usually the case nowadays. Why not? Because they were baptised in the sea or river, not in a church baptistery as we do today. So they didn’t have to wait for the next ‘baptism service’. The key is that if you have decided to follow Jesus, then sign up below for our next baptism service… why wait?
How should you be baptised?
Foundry Community Church baptises by ‘full immersion’. That means going right under the water. This is for two reasons.
The Bible word for ‘baptise’, means to ‘plunge’, ‘submerge’ or ‘immerse’. It doesn’t mean to sprinkle or pour. Examples of baptism in the New Testament (Matthew 3:16, John 3:23, Acts 8:38-39) suggest baptism by immersion was the method used.
Baptism is a picture of burial and resurrection; burial implies being placed underneath, and resurrection coming out of the tomb. This is best imitated through immersion.

Ask for Prayer
God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.
[2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT]
We believe that prayer is foundational to who we are as Christians. We believe that prayer works and it is our first response, not our last resort..
If you have anything at all that you would like us to pray for, you can fill out a prayer request by clicking the link below.
We believe this truth, that when we pray, things happen! So, if/when you have answers to prayer, we would love to hear about these too. You can fill out a praise report through the form below.
How can we pray for you?
Let us know how we can pray for you, or what you are thanking God for?
