What We Do

As a church we feel there are four key areas of focus that God has placed on our heart to support our wider community; providing homes, meals, refuge and family.

We partner with four strategic charities to make this happen; Foundry Community Housing, TLG, Welcome churches and Home For Good/Safe Families.

Here’s what it looks like in action:

Foundry Community Housing

Find out about Foundry Community Housing

Fairhavens Court is a little piece of tranquillity set in the heart of Widnes. We have a thriving community of over 60s that enjoy living independently but with the added assurance that help is never too far away.

We have 45 bungalows available for rent to people over the age of 60. The bungalows were built in 1989 and are therefore modern and well maintained. The bungalows are close to all local services including all major supermarkets, post office, the bus station and the doctors surgery.

With regular Friends of Fairhavens meetings and other opportunities to connect with people, it is a great community to continue living out an active and independent lifestyle.

All the bungalows are linked to an emergency call system so tenants can access help at any time in an emergency 24/7. We have 2 part-time wardens, a benefits advisor & support worker, and a caretaker along with a management team who all ensure that Fairhavens Court remains a great place to live.

If you, or someone you know is interested in finding out more about Fairhavens Court, you can contact them at [email protected] or call the offices on 0151 420 8837.

Welcome Churches

Find out about Welcome Churches

As a church we are part of the Welcome Churches Network. Welcome Churches have a vision for every refugee in the UK to be welcomed by their local community – and we believe as the church we are part of this.

We are committed to making sure that as a church we are offering the best welcome possible for refugees and asylum seekers, offering support and community.

We are well placed to provide community and care for those who have lost homes and family and are recovering from trauma.

We passionately believe that the church should be at the forefront of challenging injustices faced by refugees and asylum seekers and the fear and prejudice that they can often face within the wider community.

Refugees arriving in the UK should have the freedom and right to explore faith without fear of intimidation or persecution and it is our hope that through our Sunday services and different community groups that we run throughout the week.

TLG – Lunch Club

Find out about TLG – Lunch Club

Lunch Club (formerly known as Make Lunch) began in April 2020 as a project aimed at tackling the problem of holiday hunger. Over 1.5 million children receive free school meals in the UK, and with millions more living in poverty, there is a growing problem surrounding how children in our community are fed in the school holidays. For too many, the reality is that food runs out.

As a church, and in partnership with TLG, we run regular lunch clubs in the school holidays. Our lunch clubs provide nutritious meals for children and their parents/carers, as well as activities such as craft and sports which promote mental wellbeing.

Since April 2020, we have provided over 1,500 lunches, regularly feeding over 15 families at a session. As well as providing lunches, we provide food parcels and recipe kits via our Kitchen Cupboard project, so far donating over 10,000 meals between the two projects.

Lunch Club has also been able to provide school starter packs and school uniform thanks to the generosity of our local community.

Our Lunch Club runs in partnership with local Primary School’s, this means that families are referred to us and allows us to work with those who are most in need.

We are funded by the church, and various other grant schemes and supermarkets. With thanks to Edsential HAF, Garfield Weston Foundation, ASDA, Tesco, All Churches Trust, LAF, Cinnamon Network, COM Foundation and everyone who has donated to the work of Lunch Club.

Home For Good / Safe Families

Find out about Home For Good & Safe Families

Safe Families and Home for Good hope for a society where no family feels alone, and every child has a home where they can flourish. We believe the Church is central to this vision. Safe Families and Home for Good empower families, equip churches, and influence systemic change.

Safe Families supports isolated, overwhelmed families through local volunteers, helping them build stable homes and strong community connections. And Home for Good ensures that when, sadly, children come into care, there is a home for every child who needs one.

We believe the Church is well-placed to ensure that every child has the home they need, and that families that foster or adopt receive the support that they need.

We believe that the Church is ideally placed to help find families to foster or adopt and to provide an excellent community of support for families who foster or adopt.

Our heart is to do all that we can to help vulnerable children in our community.

The founding director of Home For Good, Krish Kandiah, has written a brilliant book of the same name ‘Home For Good’.

In the book Krish urges us all to take seriously Jesus’ call to ‘suffer the little children’ by engaging with the needs of the many thousands of children up and down the country who are in care and whom the church could and should be helping.

Krish and his wife Miriam have adopted and fostered children themselves and their experience – and that of the many others in this book – is very different from the popular myth which suggests social services seek to prevent Christians from getting involved.

Filled with stories from people who have adopted or were adopted themselves, alongside practical advice on how it all works and the challenges that will come, this book makes a compelling case that the church can and must make a difference in these children’s lives, and asks us all to consider our response.

We highly recommend the book, although be warned, it will have a life changing impact on you! Click here to find it on Amazon.
