Matthew 6:25-34
Have you ever been panic mode and someone turns to you and says “try not to worry about it”?! Unfortunately, it doesn’t make me worry any less. Jesus knew that there’d always be things causing us to worry. In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus, is speaking to a crowd and acknowledges their worries about food, clothing, provision, money – and his advice to them? Do not worry.
Worry can often be our knee-jerk reaction to a situation, but worry isn’t productive or time efficient; Jesus asks the question ‘can worrying add a single hour to your life?’ (Matthew 6:27) It can’t, worry only wastes our time. Worry also steals our peace by weighing us down (Proverbs 12:25). If stealing our time and peace wasn’t enough, In addition, Worry destroys our faith. Jesus asks the worrying crowd, “Why do you have such little faith?” (Matthew 6:30) The reason their faith is so small is because they worry so much!
Craig Groeschel wrote, “What you worry about most, reveals what you trust God with the least.” Perhaps you could pause to consider what you are struggling to trust God with.
Whether it’s your health, finances, family, job, future or something else that causes you great worry – Jesus wants to take the weight of worry from you! His advice for how to overcome worry is to “Seek First the Kingdom of God and his righteousness” (Matthew 6:33)
“Seeking first the Kingdom” requires us to look at life with Kingdom Vision. It involves us changing our perspective, switching our mindset and fixing our focus.
Worry Vision sees the worst-case scenario. Kingdom Vision sees hopeful possibility. (Ephesians 3:20)
Worry Vision feels like everything is out of my control. Kingdom Vision believes God is in control. (Hebrews 11:1)
Worry Vision questions why bad things always happen to me! Kingdom Vision answers that no matter what I’ve been through God has been with me. (Hebrews 13:5)
Worry Vision considers giving up. Kingdom Vision declares that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)
Looking at life through Kingdom Vision doesn’t make our problems disappear, but it puts our problem into perspective.
If looking at life through Kingdom Vision doesn’t come naturally to you, can I encourage you to reflect on the last 6 weeks of our ‘Rhythms’ series, and consider what daily rhythms you could put in place that will help to change your mindset and your outlook towards Kingdom Vision.
